Auction scheduling

The Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) generally schedules smartnumber® auctions fortnightly.

Nominations for a particular auction close four working days prior to the commencement of the auction. For example, if an auction is to be held on Wednesday the 20th of a month, then, assuming there are no public holidays prior to the auction date, nominations will close at midnight on Wednesday the 13th. If a Victorian public holiday occurs between the closing date for nominations and the auction date, the closing date is moved back by the relevant number of days.

Once nominations close, further nominations will be placed in the next auction, normally a fortnight later. If the maximum number of auction lots is reached for a particular auction event (usually 500) any further nominations will also be placed in the next available auction. The maximum number of auction lots does not need to be reached for an auction to proceed.

Cancelling a Nomination

Nominations (participation notices) may be cancelled prior to midnight on the nomination cancellation date. The nomination cancellation date is set at four working days prior to the auction date for a number. The nomination cancellation date is displayed on the smartnumbers® homepage, your Nominations List page and the Schedule of Public Auction page. For example, if a smartnumber® is nominated for an auction on Wednesday the 20th of the month the nomination maybe cancelled up to midnight on Wednesday the 13th of the month.

Re-Nominating a Cancelled Nomination

A smartnumbers® that has been nominated and then cancelled may be nominated again by any client at any time provided a valid application has already been submitted. The auction will be held on the next scheduled auction date that is more than four working days (Victorian calendar) from when the re-nomination is received.
