Auctions

To participate in an auction you must:

  • be registered with smartnumbers®; and
  • have submitted an Allocation Application (Apply) for the number.

Public Auctions

smartnumbers® nominated under the public system will be auctioned online in an ascending bid process. On the scheduled auction day, the auction will open at 11am and close at 4pm (Victorian time), if no bids are made after 3pm. If a bid is made after 3pm on the auction day, the auction will end for the day at 4pm and reopen at 11am on the next working day (Victorian time). The auction will then close on the next hour that is at least one full hour since the last bid.

The minimum bid increment will be 10 per cent of the current high bid for amounts less than and equal to $50,000. If the current high bid is greater than $50,000, the minimum bid increment is $2500. You will receive notification by email if you have been outbid.

At the close of the auction, the highest bid will secure the smartnumber®. Once payment is received by ACMA within the period required by the Telecommunications (Freephone and Local Rate Numbers) Allocation Determination 2007 (No. 1), the successful bidder will acquire the rights of use to the smartnumber®. The rights of use holder can then contact a registered carriage service provider to activate service on that particular smartnumber®

Charities Auctions

A smartnumbers® charities auction will open at 11am and close at 4pm (Victorian time) on the scheduled auction day. Charities can submit one sealed bid that is no lower than the reserve price. At the end of the auction bids will be opened and the highest bid will secure the number.

The successful bidder will be notified and invoiced the amount of the winning bid. Once payment is received by ACMA within the period required by the Telecommunications (Freephone and Local Rate Numbers - Charities) Allocation Determination 2007 (No. 1), the rights of use for the smartnumber® will be acquired by the successful charity. The successful charity can then contact a registered carriage service provider to activate service on the number. Service charges apply and vary depending on the carriage service provider selected.

Unsuccessful bidders will be notified by email that the auction has closed and the amount of the successful bid.
